These charger plates are made using the sandcasting process, presumably the oldest forming method in the world. The cooling of the metal after being taken out of the hot sand causes the formation of fine lines and hairline cracks, which together with the rough patches on the surface emphasize the unique character of this extraordinary series. The patina which is applied in the second step gives the plates their special finish and underscores their original, natural beauty. Patinated articles should not be exposed to moisture, acidity or the elements as they will otherwise become spotted and dull. Clean with a good amount of warm water and dishwashing liquid.
