The distinctly structured surface of a burnt wooden barrel provided the inspiration for these impressive containers. The surface is meticulously modelled by hand in wax by a skilled artisan and then transferred to a mould in which the Niwa containers are produced in a sandcasting process. After being removed from the mould, the structure is carefully added by hand and then the surface is galvanized and patinated. These containers should not be filled with water. Please use a glass or plastic insert for the water if you want to use your Niwa as a vase.
