Lombardo is actually not just a storm lantern but rather a small, exquisite sculpture that can also double as a storm lantern. A skilled artisan first hand-carves the shape in wax and modelling clay in a free interpretation of a spiral. The corpus is then poured in this mould in a sand-casting process and then pieced together. Lombardo consciously acknowledges its archaic handcrafted origins, proudly displaying the irregular surface and solder joints that are proof of this process. Each piece is therefore slightly different from the others.
